Hi,

I am having trouble getting my new system to boot.

CPU= AMD 3700+ (ada3700bnbox)
mobo= Asrock 939s56-m

When switched on the fans all spin once and then stop. There are no bleeps.

It is not the PSU. It cannot be... I have tried several. It is not the ram. I have tried many sticks.

The only thing I can think is that the mobo does not support this processor without a bios upgrade- thats what Asrock's website tells me. But I caanot upgrade the bios without the system booting up.

Could this cause the system to act as it is doing? Or is there some other possible explanation?

Thanks for any help
: )

Are you talking about when you turn it on via the PSU switch? The fans spinning once and stopping is the way the mobo indicates to you that it has power. You still have to turn it on via the power button. Maybe you have the switch hooked up wrong?

The switch from my case is two pinned. The mobo instructions just give one pin to the power switch with another to gnd.

What should I do? Is there any way of turning a mobo on without using the front switch? maybe using jumpers?

One connector square, named ATX 12V Power connector.. Does that means something to you? It should be connected too I guess.

Here's a sure-fire way of knowing.

Just take a flat head screwdriver, or anything that's metal really, and just lay it accross the 2 pins on the motherboard. It should turn on

I had a Asrock 939 dual sata2 which wouldn't get live when attached to the PSU 450W which was in my Antec Sonata 2. Also an Asus A8N-SLI wouldn't get live on this PSU. I had to get me another PSU (Asus 450W). This PSU could get the mobo started.
Has to do something with under-power (I translated this word from dutch to english, sorry if it's not more clear).
Try some more PSU's, many 939-boards have problems starting up, especially the Asrock 939.
(Alas you only read about these things when you've already bought one... ;-) )

Bobmoin,

Couple of things to check. Make sure the fan on the processor heatsink is properly connected. Also, make sure heatsink is making good contact with the processor. Either of these can cause overheat shutdown protection to kick in if not right.

The power switch connectors on the AsRock board are a little different from other mobos I've used. Make sure you have the front panel switch connected properly.

Hope this helps!

Thank you - this worked for me perfectly!
