New system w/ lots of cooling - this temp seems too high?

I've just started putting together a new system with an A7V333, XP2000+, PAL8045 w/ Panaflo H1A, AS2, and 4 case fans in an Antec SX1040B. After running for about 5 minutes just in DOS (fdisk), the system monitor in the BIOS reports the CPU temp to be about 45 degrees C. Is it just me, or does that seem a bit high, given the amount of cooling? (and I haven't oc'd anything yet!)

Could I not have tightened the PAL8045 enough to make a good contact with the core? I can tighten it more, but was afraid of crushing it. I couldn't tell what kind of contact was being made when I looked at it from the side. The screws extended about 2mm past the nylon nuts on the bottom of the mobo. I've also read that Asus boards overstate the temp somewhat, so maybe I should get Windows installed and run Motherboard Monitor to see what it says. Any comments?

Or am I just being too sensitive? 😉

Relatively low speed/noise fan, I'd say it's close to spec...the BIOS gives you some load I think, so it's best to run motherboard monitor to get true idle temps.

I also remember reading on the Arctic Silver site that it takes 72 hours for arctic silver to really start working or something similar to that. So let it burn in for awhile if you haven't already.

I wouldn't expect much drop in cpu temps after "burning" it in. Mine drop around 2 degrees after a couple of days of use.

<< i think the asus board may be a few degrees off, feel free to send me the computer if it displeases you >>

LOL 😛

I've been playing with it more tonight. Just started Prime95 about 15 minutes ago and according to Asus Probe (haven't installed Motherboard Monitor yet), it's already up to 53C. However board temp is only 23C. Case side panel is off, so that is probably affecting board temp. That seems high, especially since I haven't OC'd anything yet...

A) Try Motherboard Monitor to eliminate any chance of PcProbe being faulty

B) IS your A7V333 set to read the Xp internal diode? IF so, those temps are as good a temp reading as you'll get iwth an AMD chip.

C) No, Asus doesn't really overstate the temp. In fact, compoaring internal diode versus Asus/MBM readings, Asus temps can often times still fall under-actual DIE temperature.
