Newegg is selling the ASUS ENGT240/DI/1GD3/A GeForce GT 240 1GB card today for $40 after rebate. Is this a good deal to go in my new Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H motherboard? I'm not a heavy game player although I do use MS Flight Simulator occasionally.

Honestly, it's not a great deal, unless you're looking for an HTPC card. If you want to do any gaming (and apparently you want to do some), the DDR5 version is significantly faster for $10 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130533.

In HAWX, a game that might be somewhat similar graphically to Flight Simulator, the difference is 45%: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2906/8. In other games, it's at least 10% faster and often 25% faster.

Newegg now has the EVGA 512-P3-1242-LR GeForce GT 240 Superclocked 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card on sale for $39 after a $35 rebate and $3 shipping. From the comments above abot the DDR5 memory, this would be the better performer. How does EVGA compare to ASUS? Also the ASUS has 1GB of DDR3 vs the EVGA 512MB of DDR5. Is that significant?

the card is too slow with ddr3 so having more than 512mb will be of no real benefit.

Yes, buy the EVGA superclocked GT240 512MB. It is an awesome deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130531. $39AR/shipping is fantastic for this card, and you'll see a huge improvement from what you have now.
