New System... Unsure about cooling for cpu...

K decided today to build another system. This time I'm going with a Athlon XP 1800+/ECS K7S5A Mobo. Now the problem is I'm not exactly sure what cooling to use with this processor. Last system I built was Intel and cooling isn't near as important ( well as it is in the athlon pre XP, I've not been keeping up lately and I don't know exactly how stable these XP's are ). Anyway I was wondering if anybody had any decent fan suggestions for the processor as it is OEM.

I've got an 1800xp system, I first had a Thermaltake Dragon orb, it worked great but man was it loud!!! I ended up buying a Cooler Master DP5-7H53F-A1 off New egg for 8.00 plus shipping, it has worked flawlessly. I over clock to 2100 speed and it works great I'm running cpu temps @ 43c. Which to my best knowledge is pretty good for overclocking.

Coolermaster HHC-001. Kinda loud though. You might wanna pop a 60mm-80mm or 60mm-92mm fan adaptor on there. I run constant mid 30's before my fan case mods.

Last i checked, cooling is always important ;]

You dont really need a huge fan for Palos, infact the one that comes in the box if you go retail is a little dinky thing. As long as its an even marginaly effect heatsink/fan, youll be fine. I suggst picking up a Thermaltake VolcanoII from Newegg.com... they are only $5.50, and they are truly awesome coolers. It can be loud, but its great.

I dont really have a price range. I mean I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on cooling I'm not overclocking or anything like that. Anyway ended up ordering the 1700xp retail. I'd prefer a fan that doesn't sound like a jet engine but I'm not interetsed in frying my cpu or other components either. The casing I'm using is here. The price range isn't to big of a deal but I'd liek to stay under 30-40 bucks. Then again since I went retail it does come with a fan would that be adequate enough?

<< Been leaning towards using the retail fan/heatsink. Is that enough to keep my cpu cool? >>

Yes.

yes, but if you plan on unlocking your xp, i'd suggest a coolermaster hc-001 with a 80mm fan adapter + 80mm fan, a thermalright sk6, a thermalright ax7, or an alpha 8045

All of the above are excellent cooler choices (not all may fit your mobo though)

If you are on a tight budget and you are content with its noise (i have no idae how loud it is), stick with the retail, it does its job
