Setup

- Intel C2D E4300
- Arctic Freezer Pro 7
- Gigabyte 965P DS3 Rev 3.3
- MSI x1950 pro 256MB
- Antec True Power 2.0 480 Watt PSU
- 2x1GB Super Talent DDR2-667
- 400GB Seagate Sata HDD
- 16x Sony Nec DVD Burner SATA
- Sceptre 20.1" WS LCD Monitor
- Thermaltake Mambo case
- Vista Business

I installed the brass stand offs, cpu fan connector, the 4 pin and 24 pin connector from the psu. When I push the power button, the psu lights up and spins, the fan on the MSI X1950 pro spins, and the case fan spins. The CPU FAN does not spin. After about 5 seconds, it turns off, and the cycle repeats. I have to hold the power button till it actually shuts down (at this point, I hear the HDD stop spinning).

Is it the PSU-- - Antec True Power 2.0 480 Watt PSU? - I'm very sad :(

Suspicion*, but yes, I agree. Check the POST error codes with your motherboard manual. You might try reseating the RAM and checking the power connections to everything. I would suggest disconnecting all non-essential components and booting with a minimal system (enable integrated graphics if necessary). Make sure you've not inverted the connections for anything (including the CPU fan, though that would be difficult since it's usually keyed). Can you test any of the components on a spare rig?

It's unlikely, but you may try removing the CMOS battery and replacing it. Perhaps the SMART function went screwy. Not likely, though...

My first guess is the RAM is not seated correctly. Computers really don't like to do anything when RAM is in the wrong slots or is not fully seated.

Let us know about the POST codes, though...

Okay, I solved the problem.

It was the motherboard! It's not broken, but I had to connect the CPU Fan to the PWR_Fan connector instead of the cpu_fan to actually get the fan working. I guess the CPU fan wont spin till it reaches 30C or somewhere around that. Now, to disable that in bios :D

- Installing vista. Hopefully I wont run into any problems ;)

To anyone who runs into the same problem, try out this:

CONNECT THE CPU FAN TO THE PWR_FAN CONNECTOR FIRST!! THEN IN BIOS, DISABLE THE FAN SETTING. THEN RECONNECT THE CPU FAN TO THE CPU FAN CONNECTOR!

Press DEL once computer boots up. Go to "PC HEALTHPC Health Status"
Then go down to:
Smart FAN Control Method__ [Disable] <--Forces CPU fan to always run full speed.

:p

Thank you all.
