this is my cut and paste email i've been sending to retailers..thats why it sounds so formal, but i couldnt be bothered rewriting. i just want anyones advice on this stuff. i'm not looking to build a dream machine, but i want to be able to play games and stuff

i'm intending to buy a new computer within the next few weeks. I have come up with these specs so far...
Firstly, do you recommend DDR being better than normal SDRAM? Is it much more expensive to upgrade and are there advantages/disadvantages to having it?

I havent included a motherboard or type of RAM in this, because i dont know much about the boards so of anyone can help

Athlon 1.4ghz
256 or 512mb RAM
64M Leadtek Winfast GeForce II GTS TV Pro
Western Digital WD400BB 40gb 7200
16X DVD ROM (undecided yet)
52X CDROM (undecided)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! DE 5.1
Speakers (undecided)
Floppy drive
Mouse
Keyboard
Win ME

Another thing i'm stuck on is a monitor. these are the ones i've come up with. are the flat ones really alot better than normal? if i want a flat, 17" is my budget limit unfortunately
Phillips 107T Real Flat 17"
Hitachi CM625 17" Flat
Hitachi CM625 17" (Flat Diamondtron)
Mitsubishi DV1786FD 17" Monitor (Flat)

go DDR. the price of DDR dimms are almost the same as SDR. its not mind-blowingly faster, but it is faster none. as for boards, a lot of people are praising the ECS (forgot the model) board...its performance is among the best and price is cheap (less than $100). myself, i have an epox 8k7a. i'm happy...no complaints. as far as monitors go...i'm not too clued in on those u posted. i like samsungs (budget - 955df, $$$ - 900nf)
