new system reboots corruption?

Ok, built a new system.

Install was ok. XP/Vista dual boot

When playing games (stressing system) it started giving me BSOD and reboots and XP install became corrupted. As well Vista became corrupted with lots of errors during use.

BSOD errors lead to me getting replacement MB and RAM

2nd Install was ok. But then same problem! I ran some games and stress software and it made the reboot/crash errors happen again.

So, I am thinking it has be 1 of 4 things left:

1. Bad CPU e6850
2. Bad PS CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W
3. Bad HD Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150
4. Bad SATA cable to the drive

I am leaning towards #2, Power Supply or #1 the CPU. The HD is fine for all data transfers including installs. The system only crashes when playing a game or running a stress test like included with ntune. The 8800GTX is from another system and has been totally fine, as is my X-fi soundcard, so it's not those.

Temps, are good, I was monitoring them before the last fatal crash in XP, and all temp were totally good.

The system only crashes when running a game, or running the stress test. After a few crashes the windows install becomes corrput to the point that I can not reboot in to windows.
When I do it either restarts by itself, hangs or gives me a BSOD.

It's interesting, even the Vista parition becomes corrupted after a crash in XP. So something is messing up all over the HD. Very odd.

Everything runs fine until it starts crashing and then something becomes corrupt and it's all over, a reformat is needed.

This the worst build I've had and I've been building them forever! Any ideas?

Thanks for listening... it's taking up so much time, it's killing me :(

You have not specified the motherboard that you are using.

Keep in mind that most of the settings in modern motherboards' BIOS must be set manually!

Set your settings to the manufacturers' specifications for:

Manual Overclocking (even if you are running stock) 1333MHz/ 800 (or whatever your RAM is)

VCore...
Memory Voltage...

memory timings (e.g. 4-4-4-12-2T - very important 2T!)

That should be sufficient - if you still have issues, let me know.

Good luck!

part2: Vista64 25G (OS plus misc)
part3: Games 90G
part4: Apps 20G (10gig per OS, I usually burn 4-5gig for apps max, so that's double for both, should be fine)

Fans for CPU and Case: (1 x Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm 1200RPM for CPU, 3 x Scythe S-FLEX SFF21D 120mm 800RPM for case fans)

Switched RAM to TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX on the 2nd rebuild with the replacement EVGA board. Only using 2G.

No OC. RAM at default slower timings. All Voltage at stock no OC settings.

I don't think it is the HD, because how could I make it through all those installs with no errors and have it only crash and become corrupted under stress. Must be CPU or PS... I would think, what else could do this since I replaced the RAM and MB?

Well, I kinda expected the nForce 600 series chipset... You have to get the system stable with 2GB memory FIRST.
Try to do the manual settings as described above (Manual Overclock)

VCore 1.3125V
memory 2.2V (2 modules ONLY first!)
NB Voltage 1.56V

FSB 1333/ memory 800MHz

Memory timings: 4-4-4-12-2T rest on Auto

Try to lower the LDT (Hyper Transport) frequency to 4x, or 800MHz.

Hope this helps...

P.S. And try the XP first, get the system stable with only one OS. It's enough to deal with the stability problems first, without adding the dual boot issues with Vista Boot Loader etc.

You can install the Vista later.
