New System Questions

Hello Guys,

Im going to build a computer soon, and after a lot of research on AnandTech i have put a system together. I have to be sure this will work, so if you have any advice, please let me know.

AMD Athlon 64 4600+ DualCore
ASUS A8V-SLI Premium PCX
2x 1GB Kingston DDR 400
3x 300GB SATA2 Maxtor 7200 16MB
ATi Sapphire x1900XTX PCX VIVO Crossfire

Im not sure if this CPU will come with a cooler, but i want this system to be as quiet as possible. Which cooler would be the best one to go with?

Also this Maxtor drives, are they going to be very loud?

For the cpu...depends on if it's retail or not. If retail then the heatsink will be included and should be sufficient if you're not overclocking and should be decently quiet.
Maxtors for the most part are louder than the competition. I've noticed that Seagates and Western Digitals are quieter with Seagate being the quietest.

Zalman heatsinks are very quiet. I also recommend seagate drives for noise (the lack of) and durability. Have you chosen a power supply? It is one of the most important components and the only one which can destroy your machine if it fails. I like Fortron or PC power and cooling for PSUs, and I've heard some good things about Seasonic.

BTW, will you be running RAID 5 on those 3 drives? If so, maybe you should think about a hardware RAID controller to take a load off your system... not that it needs the extra CPU cycles though, it's a very nice setup.
