this is my partial list of parts for my p4 system (pls post your comments) :

Intel Pentium 4 1.6a RETAIL - $132

Seagate Barracuda 40GB - $89.21 (Local Store/no shipping&tax)

total w/o shipping+tax: $399.65 (everything is from newegg except for memory which is from crucial and HD)

does anyone have the same CPU+MOBO+MEM combo? what FSB have you reached? does anyone have any more recommendations on a decent, very cheap and nice quality video card ($40-70 price range)?one last thing..when is the next intel price drop? maybe i'll wait till that date.

I have built one with the MSI 645 board, but he chose not to overclock. I don't know of a lot of people who have bought the MSI 645 for overclocking. If you are on a budget, get the Gigabyte 8SRX instead (not available at newegg.com, but available at mwave). There are many places with good reads on people overclocking on the Gigabyte board, like the Gigabyte 8SRX vs. ASUS P4S333 thread, so you will have more opinions and suggestions.

Personally, I have reached 145 with memory speeds up to 181, but I was getting Prime95 rounding errors, so I tuned it down to 139 with memory speeds at 175. So I am at 2.22GHz with the P4 1.6A.

The ATi Radeon 32mb DDR is in the $40s range at www.newegg.com. Still a very good card. If you can spend a few more bucks, get the Radeon 7500 64mb DDR, OEM is $86.

Intel price drop? Don't know when, but I think processor prices are dropping all the time. Plus newer and better SiS645DX will be available if you wait as well. So it is really up to you.....
