---> UPDATE, PROBLEM SOLVED!

I'm building a new system and have run into some problems. I have everything setup outside of the case, when I boot with just the cpu and ram, I just get a cycle of reboots.

When I boot with no ram, i get continuous short beeps.

The error code in the manual says its a power problem.

I'm using an i7-860

Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT25664BA1339

Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7" Power Supply

GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 LGA 1156 Intel P55 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

- Try lowering your ram speed to 1066 or 1333 and relax the timings to 9-9-9-21/24 at 1.65V to isolate RAM as your problem.

If the reboots continue

- Disable all power saving technologies such as EIST, C1E states

If the reboots continu
e

- Disable Turbo Mode

If the reboots continue

- try using only 1 ram stick in DIMM 1
- up the CPU voltage by +0.200V
- up the PCH / PLL 1.8V to 2.00V
- up the PCH 1.05V to 1.20V
- Set the QPI frequency to 4800
- ensure PCIe is set to 100
- disable CPU spread spectrum
- Disable Max CPUID to 3
- Disable Execute Memory Bit
- Disable Virtualization Technology and other useless 'junk'

Also don't forget to:

- Check your temperatures in Hardware Monitor and Vdroop on CPU voltage in CPU-Z 1.52
- Check your voltages on 3.30V, 12V rails
- Make sure you have the latest BIOS version flashed. As a last resort, try loading "Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS.

I really appreciate the reply, I should have put more detail into my post. The machine wont even post for me to get into the bios. I've tried clearing the bios settings, that did nothing.

I think that it may be some defective memory, when the ram is in, the system powers up for 3 seconds, then resets. No beeps, nothing, everything powers up for 3 sec, then bam resets and it does this endlessly.

When the ram is out, I just get a continuous series of short beeps, I can't even count how many there are, but it happens for about 8 to 10 seconds then starts over again. The manual says that 9 short beeps is a power problem.

I'm going to try with 1 stick of ram to see if I can get it to post. I have a feeling that its the memory though.

Quick update,

I've tried the memory in white/blue slots, ive tried each piece singularly in every slot, its all the same results. When the ram is in, no post, no beeps, just powers up for about 3 seconds, then resets in an infinite loop.

When memory is out, its a bunch of short quick beeps for about 5-8 seconds.

Just wondering what you used to put underneath your mobo, don't used the black sponge where it came with the box.
There are beeps which can determine that mobo & CPU are good since they can still do self debug.
Try clear CMOS while your CPU & memory modules are on the board~ and try to boot the system again.
Or you may have to make sure that the Crucial is working~

I have it sitting on top of the MB box at the moment.

I'm trying to get more variations of beeps, but mainly just get the beeps when I dont have ram installed. When the ram is in, it just reboots every 3 seconds. I'll try to clear the CMOS with ram and cpu plugged in.

I tried this and no go, i think i may just have to rma a bunch of stuff and try my luck again because I can't identify the problem specifically.

Saw this same posting in another forums.
Unfortunately I have the same ram, same board and same cpu, also antec power supply with lower wattage. Also have a 9500GT plugged in.
I don't have a speaker hooked up (couldn't find on in my junk box, damnit).
But I'm seeing the same thing you are. Fan spins up, then spins down. Happens every 3 seconds or so continuously.

Also of note I tried a true blue intel board and it did the three long beeps dance (indicating no memory found).

I bought this ram because its rated 1.5V/9 cas.
considering this is like the third intel chipset to support DDR3 you think they'd have gotten it right already?

I posted this on both forums hoping to get some insight into the problem. It's interesting that you're getting the same issues, will your system even post?

I was thinking it was my powersupply, but I think i may just pick up some new ram tomorrow. It's listed on the supported memory list for our motherboard though.

Oh man, what's going on... it's like every other user is having memory problems on P55 chipset. This better not be a trend!

The memory controller is not on the chipset... it's on the cpu.

Ya I meant when paired with a P55 board, not on the chipset itself.

But what are the odds of two people with the same mb/ram setup getting the same problems, and another person with the same ram, different motherboard having the same issues.

I am going to venture out and pick up another MB/power supply and another type of ram and run some tests this weekend, hopefully.

I read both this thread and the one you started over at HardOCP, as I had the exact same issue with the exact same hardware you listed. I went ahead and bought some Corsair RAM from their Core i5 "approved" list.

http://www.corsair.com/products/corei5/default.aspx

I bought the CMX4GX3M2A1600C8 kit, the 4gb DDR3 1600 CAS 8 one. Works like a charm so far.

I really appreciate your reply I had this feeling fromt he beginning. Im heading out to get some different memory in the morning. Thanks!

Keep the updates coming, HeyImLance. I have had the SAME exact problems with the same MOBO and the Crucial ram (although I only have a 500w Earthwatts). I have been scouring everywhere trying to figure out what's wrong. I hope it is as simple as this!

Well folks, I have the same mobo and RAM AND the same problem. I can't offer any help....just letting everyone know that this problem is happening to a lot of people. I haven't seen any forum with an answer yet. The board hasn't been out long enough for someone to have received a RMA back yet!!

Please let us know if it is the board or the RAM (those are my main suspects)

Its funny how all of us cheap-o's got the cheapest gigabyte board and the cheapest ddr3 1333 ram AND we expected it to work flawlessly......damn our penny-pinching (or the economy.....)

Case cracked! Sorry for the late reply. It's the ram, I picked up the same exact ram as psharpe and now everything is working flawless.

CMX4GX3M2A1600C8 kit, the 4gb DDR3 1600 CAS 8, Working great here as well. I'm very impressed, at boot the system lists 2.8 @ 2.93 and that's just plugging everything in. Now its time to find a nice cooling solution so I can bump that up a bit.

Thanks a bunch for this post. I got the Corsair memory (but the CL9 version) and my system POSTS!!!! That single beep was the greatest sound I've heard in a long time.......thank god. Stay away from that Crucial memory like its an IED.

Good thread, I'm pretty sure this'll be my next mobo so I'll avoid the Crucial ram.

Looks like a solid board, has everything I need and it's so cheap.

He had older High voltage DDR3 that he tried to use hence the issue... buy the right Crucial set, and there is no issue....

Ci7/i5 requires Low voltage ddr3 @1.5-1.65v

The Crucial that's linked to in the original post is rated at 1.5V (from Newegg's site, maybe it's wrong).
