I posted this in general discussion, but thought maybe id get better replies here instead.

I am so mad.

I just recently built a new system, and it powers up fine until my monitor turns on. It just shows a bunch of random "stuff." kinda like the matrix garbage. I'm thinking its the video card but i dont know how it could be its brand new. the vid card is a PNY 6600GT PCI-E card. The mobo is new too, its an Abit. (links below). it has 2 sticks of 512mb ram, amd 64 3500+ venice processor. When I say the screen is garbled, i mean theres nothing coherent to make out on the screen at all. And i cant get anywhere either. I really need your help on this one. Also my psu is a thermaltake 480watt, so i dont think its a power issue. the ONLY thing i can think of is the outputs of the video card. I have a standard CRT dell monitor, and the video card has 2 DVI outputs on the back and no VGA, BUT the card comes with two VGA to DVI connectors so thats how im hooking up my card to my monitor. is that why this is happening? this is really upsetting because i really need a pc up and running right now.

Try clearing the cmos on the mobo. Even with the dvi->vga connector it shouldn't be garbled. I had an old ti-4200 that was artifacting at post. Tested same video card in another pc to confirm that it was the video card. RMA'd and everything was okay.

In your situation you'll have to isolate the problem was best you can. If you have another computer with a PCI-E slot test it in there. If you have an old PCI video card/onboard video, give it a whirl in the new system. Good luck.
