I am so mad.

I just recently built a new system, and it powers up fine until my monitor turns on. It just shows a bunch of random "stuff." kinda like the matrix garbage. I'm thinking its the video card but i dont know how it could be its brand new. the vid card is a PNY 6600GT PCI-E card. The mobo is new too, its an Abit. (links below). it has 2 sticks of 512mb ram, amd 64 3500+ venice processor. When I say the screen is garbled, i mean theres nothing coherent to make out on the screen at all. And i cant get anywhere either. I really need your help on this one. Also my psu is a thermaltake 480watt, so i dont think its a power issue. the ONLY thing i can think of is the outputs of the video card. I have a standard CRT dell monitor, and the video card has 2 DVI outputs on the back and no VGA, BUT the card comes with two VGA to DVI connectors so thats how im hooking up my card to my monitor. is that why this is happening? this is really upsetting because i really need a pc up and running right now.

Sounds like the video card. Standard response is to update the drivers, but sounds like more than that for you.

A couple of options, both start with either asking or drugging your friend...

a) Swap out the video card in your system for your friend's video card that you know works.
b) Install the video card in your friend's system.

B is usually easier, less chance of your friend waking up while you're working.

I'm sure you've made sure the card is seated good into the mobo. Double check it. Is there power connected to the video card separately? Also make sure the DVI/VGA converted is snug.

If all that is fine, you've got to try and troubleshoot the card as above. If you can't swap into another system, the money would be to RMA the video card and see what happens.
