i cloned winXP X64 to another drive (an old PATA) but i fdisk says "error reading fixed disk, so i put it in another machine and set the jumper to master and fdisk worked but the partition was already startable.

also i noticed that the x64 ntfs partition was the 2nd partition on the list.

i attempted to start the drive on the older box but windows complained about the lack of 64bit hardware.
however i put the drive back in the 64bit box as the only drive however it refuses to boot the drive

"disk boot failure , insert system disk blah blah.."

i checked the boot sequence etc. and its all correct.
motherboard is a Biostar Tforce 570.

could use some help.

you're going to have to wipe all the parititons on that old drive manually. you may have to manually reinstall XP 64.

you have to use the partitioning software on the cd to wipe out the partitions completely, do not install, reboot and then create a new partition and reinstall.

i want to learn to use the clone method.
i deleted the partitions as u said and restored the image from the original drive
again. still get either "error loading operating system" or "error reading disk"
its unclear what triggered either of those.

also unclear is wether those errors were reported from the os or from the motherboard, if from the os then i can assume x64 has a prejudice against the pata type drive due to drivers etc or if i havent used the acronis properly.

since i did not have the PATA drive installed in the system when the partition backup was made i wonder if x64 is unprepared to run from a PATA drive.

i gotta disagree... i installed the drive and booted the original drive together
they work fine. i did a disk check and it came back fine.

what the hell are you talking about..?
the drive still wont boot. i made 3 backup images of the original and restored to the PATA drive 3 times and all three times the msg at boot is either error reading fixed disk or error loading operation system.
when installed in the sytem WITH the other drive as a non boot drive the files are visable and the drive appears to be working fine.

This is hard to parse. What exactly do you want to do? It sounds like you moved a drive from a x64 platform to a 32 bit platform, things didn't work, so you moved the drive again to another x64 platform, and now the disk won't boot, giving a disk boot failure, insert system disk error. (Incidently, when describing things, taking another 2 minutes to write out a full description is smart.)

If this is the case, boot with the x64 CD into recovery console, do a fixboot and fixmbr and tell us what happens.
