New System, No Anti-Virus SW - Guess what Happened ?

i've had this system for about 2 weeks -

intel e6700
intel Q965 MB
Seagate 320 SATA boot drive
no video card yet
XP 32 for OS

... man oh man, it has been "affected" and maybe/ probably Infected.

also, when you look at the desktop, all the names/ labels on all the
folders are highlighted.

too many choices.

i don't want to just mindlessly plop down another $60. can't help but
wonder if the software that's on my machine is capturing credit card
#'s etc.

what's good anti-virus software for someone on a budget ?

it's running now.

i thought i was going to have to re-load the OS.

once i had some lumber stored in my bathroom.
and we had palmetto bugs (cockroaches).

they multiplied.

one night i was in the bathroom standing between
2 vertical piles of lumber, and there was about 10,000
cucarachas to the left and right. it's kind of a creepy
feeling :beer:

anyway, looks like my computer is infected that bad.

the Anti Virus program is just clicking away, counting through
the files.

i used Kaspersky, the .exe named
kav6.0.2.621en

i'd provide a URL for the download page but it's
re-booted so many times that page is long gone ! :music:

the kaspersky scan completed, gave it the almost 100%
thumbs up except for 6 files that were in green text and
flagged in some way.

now my headphone is playing music although there are no
music web pages or apps. open, just a page like AT forums.

how do i get my computer to stop auto-playing music ?

re-boot ?

i wonder if the file it was playing was a long one that got
loaded by one of the web pages.
