eVGA 7800 GT
Sonota II 450w PS
1 x 80Gb ATA (Carried over for current system)
2 x 80Gb SATA (Carried over for current system)
1 x DVD-R/RW (Carried over for current system)

Current PC.

AMD62 3200+ S754
MSI K8N nforce3 Plat...
ATI X800 XT PE AGP

1. Is a 450watt PS enought for what I have planned?

You might want to get a bigger power supply. You've loaded your system with high end stuff. Instead on Sonata 2, you can consider getting an Antec SLK3000B ... it's an awesome case that's only $45. Then you can get a good quality 550W power supply. You'd still be spending the same as you would have spent on a Sonata2 but end up with a better set-up.

I do VMWare (thats why i have 1.5GB, might go for 2GB if price is right), Gaming (Mostly EVE-Online and some FPS here and there), going for dual core because I do alot of multitask.

I already have the HD's wich are SATA = Maxtor and ATA is a Seagate.

My current system is housed in a gen 1 sonata, I like it alot.

yeah, dont get sli. make sure those are seagate hd's if you dont already have them, and a benq dw1620.

Why not SLI, isn't it a viable upgrade path down the line?

because SLI boards are more pricy.. unless u r definitely sure u will run the SLI down the path.. btw.. MSI neo4 and DFI lanparty are my top choices... u can do a non-SLI to SLI mod as well..

when you say multitask, what exactly are you referring to? trying to decide if you would be better off with a 3700diego or a 3800 x2...

your current rig seems to be pretty good. can't you just put a new hsf on it and o/c it?

SLI is useless unless you're going for the VERY BEST of the time (2x7800GTX) and can't wait for future technlogy. For example, when the 7800GTX came out($600), it performed about equally to 2 6800 Ultras in SLI (~$1000). You do the math 😛

Running multiples VMs @ onces, browsing, Fraps Capturings, some encoding at times...

from what i have read, there does seem to be some issues with x2 and gaming, not sure if it has been worked out yet, but just an fyi.

what type of ram usage are you using now? i think if you went with 3 sticks it puts it back into single channel mode, but am not positive and you would probably need the bandwidth of dual channel if you go x2.

are you having serious issues currently? i know when i game occasionally i will use fraps to capture and don't really notice any slowdowns except when i stop it, other than that there is no noticeable slowdown(maybe on a benchmark there is but none that i can fee).

also, are you going to game and encode at the same time? is your encoder smp/smt aware?

i don't know if you will really get a huge benefit from your current rig, especially considering the cost of a new m/b, x2 and 7800gt, this will probably cost you at least $800 or so and i don't think you will get that much in return.

what monitor do you have? what games and what resolutions?

Using OCZ400R3 x 3.

With my current board it runs memory in single channel@333MHz (wont run at 400 🙁 ), if I go with a S939 board I'll probably just throw in a 4th stick.

Issues not really, except some slow downs with 2 EVE clients (window mode) thats since I got an LCD.

Got a Dell 2005FPW LCD couple of weeks ago, so native res of 1680x1050.

Also playing BF2.
