WoW! You have a high price set on your build huh?

I'm lazy but you can do the work on newegg.

Antec P182, 850w antec quatro, Asus Rampage formula, 2X (2x2gb G.skill DDR 1066), ATI HD4850 x2 for crossfire, 2x Samsung spinpoints 750gb.

P182 is 90 AR, 850w is 150 (Normally 250) Rampage formula is 300, Ram is roughly 200, HD4850s-320AR, Spinpoints 240$ for both

Powernick's list isn't bad, but if you get 2x 4850s I'd go with a Corsair 750W instead:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...E16817139006&Tpk=750TX

It'll have plenty of power and cost less. I would also go with DDR2-1000 if it's cheaper, and you won't notice the difference. If you have no plans to overclock, DDR2-800 would be fine. You also don't really need to spend $300 on a motherboard just to be able to use crossfire.

The WD Caviar 640GB is another good hard drive choice and is only $90 right now if I'm not mistaken.

Heres my question to that then, im really trying to weigh the performance difference between that amd cards and the nvidia cards. for 600$ i can get 2 hd4870's but for 480 i can get one 9800gx2... how much more am i going to get out of 2 amd cards as opposed to the 1gx2.. i plan on running 1900x1200(native for the monitor) in crysis, and would like to keep the graphics settings as high as possible and still pull good framerates

Honestly, the 4870 I just purchased is kicking the shit (Sorry for the language but its true) out of my 8800GT on my 24" monitor.

9800gx2 is fine, but still has the same problems SLI does. Also the advantages. DSF is right about the mobo but it doesn't hurt:)

I'd say do 1 4870 on x48 and then add later

Im actually thinking im going to stick with a 9800gx2.. it pretty much seems to hold its own against everything although the price.. kinda makes me cringe...(wish i could afford 2 :p). Although im still stuck on the motherboard. Heres what im thinking so far:

Asus MK241H 24" 2ms lcd - 489.99

Antec Nine Hundred - 359.98 w/ psu
Antec SG850 psu
Intel E8400 3GHz - 189.99
2 Samsung SH-S223F dvd burners - 53.98
WD Cavair SE16 640 gig - 89.99
EVGA 9800 GX2 KO - 449.99

For a total of 1633.92

You're paying way too much for your PSU. You'd be fine with a good 600-650W power supply. If you want some headroom, the Corsair 750TX is much cheaper than that Antec.

well im going with a 9800gx2.. im considering the ability of sli.. but i can keep the price down significantly by removing the ability to do that.. not that its a huge factor, but hey.. if i can save a lil im not complaining. But sli in the really near future.. probably not. i also while sitting here did some more research on monitors and decided to change to a GatewayFHD2400.. 10 bucks cheaper.. but anandtech recommends it.

new total 1513.92

Not only is 1066 fine, but DDR2-800 would be fast enough if you aren't overclocking. Even if you are, 800 will let you go all the way up to 3.6GHz. To go higher than that, you'd want DDR2-1000. There's no reason to spend more than $90 on 4GB with the way DDR2 prices have fallen, so get yourself a nice kit of DDR2-800 or DDR2-1000 depending on your overclocking goals.

When your motherboard lists a memory standard, it's just the fastest speed the manufacturer claims it will accept, it's not the required speed.
