After many weeks of turmoil, I have come to a new setup that I am looking to build before years end. This replaces my Dual Athlon SCSI system, which has run great for the last 7 years, but new software and it is time to upgrade.
I put down the Athlon X2 but I have also concidered Core Duo, not sure if I will gain much either way, but the Athlon is cheaper and more mature.
Stability and reliability is my number one goal, Speed and cost are close second. This will be used for CAD, Engineering Simulation, some Games, and general work with some basic applications (though I average about 10+ programs going at one time, hence the Dual Core).
Main Data storage will be on 4 of the 320GB Drives in RAID 5 config. Want to ensure the data is secure, found that my CD backup of things are starting to fail. Also have a growing Multimedia collection that will be hooked up to my Theater, figure 1TB will be a good size to start.
Below is the list, let me know what you think!
1 MSI K9N Platinum Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
1 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor
