New system is SO SLOW to boot

I'm not sure why, but my new system is excruciatingly slow to boot. It takes at least 60 seconds to detect the ide drives or get into bios. Then several seconds (10-15) to get past the serial ATA detection. New system is an XP 1700+ NF7-S v2.0, 512 of pc3200 twinmos, SK7 and Panaflo M1a. The rest of the components are in my sig. My IBM drive is now on the SATA controller using the seriell adapter. The WD drive is now the primary master. Everything else is the same. Bios defaults have been loaded with the same problem. Is this something obvious? Temps seem ok @ 35C. I have not loaded the OS yet, but I'm giving the memory a check @ 200, 2-2-2-6 with memtest to see how it fares overnight.

Is there a "single drive" jumper mode for the HD? I remember a few times my POST was really slow because it was looking for a slave drive when there wasn't one.

I have the exact same problem only its a pentium4 2.4GHz and soyo dragon lite mobo. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?TIA

Yeah, set the WD for "single drive" if it's by itself on a cable. That's often an instant cure. Good luck! 😀
