I just built a new PC for myself. I have been updating drivers and installing software. Along the way, my DVD drive has stopped working. I am not sure how to figure out if it is a hardware failure or if maybe an updated driver caused it to stop working. Here is a description of the hardware:
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP
Core 2 Duo E6600
2GB G.Skill DDR2-800
BFG GeForce 7600 GT OC
WD 250GB SATA
NEC 16X DVD+/-R DVD Burner (Model ND-3550A)
Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W
My best guess of when the optical drive stopped working is after I updated the BIOS on my ASUS motherboard. I updated from version 302 to version 614. I checked the BIOS to see if there was anything obvious to me that may have caused a problem but could not find anything. I was also in the process of installing Windows XP updates just before I noticed the DVD drive stopped working.
Any suggestions of how I can get it working again or do you think it is just a hardware failure?
Eric
