New system cooling problems

I just upgraded my system, which is an Enlight case with a single Seagate 7200 rpm HDD, with a new EPoX 8K3A+ and XP1700 Tbred. I bought a Speeze CPU fan, which is very large, because I had read good reviews of it for heat and noise on Newegg.

Anyway, I am running the CPU at stock speed, but have been getting BIOS temp readings ranging from the low 50's to the low 60's, all with the case cover off. This seems like a temperature that is too high, so I have some questions.

1) The Speeze fan is so large that I can't easily tell if it is seated perfectly. I assume that if it wasn't, I would

2) I had MBM5 previously installed, before I changed the mobo. For whatever reason, it can't report the CPU or system temperature, although it does report voltages. Does anyone know if the 8K3A should be able to work with MBM5? Maybe I just need to reinstall it?

3) I didn't use any aftermarket goop, just the goop that was on the Speeze to begin with. Should that make that much of a difference?

4) I would be willing to buy a more elaborate setup, such as an SK-7 and a good quiet fan (recommendations welcome), but I want to make sure that I don't have something else wrong first. The Speeze fan has gotten good results for others, and it is rated to handle Tbreds up to 2200. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Wes

Is this one of the EPOX boards that read high temperatures? I can't recall which one it was 😱

I would try removing the heatsink and applying some arctic silver. If that doesn't help, and you aren't happy with your temperatures, check into a new heatsink. The sk7 or slk800 would work great.

IIRC, the 8K3's read core temp, yes.Set up some case fans and put your case side on, 60 degrees should be fine, especially if you're running a quiet rig.
