My father in law is wanting a new computer to replace the one I built about 4 years ago. These are the components that I am thinking of using. He uses a lot of apps at the same time during the day and likes to play some games on the side. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Intel Core Duo 2 E6600 312.99
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS 142.99
2GB of Corsair Ram 5-5-5-12 6400 240.00 a/r
EVGA 7900 GS 159.00 a/r
Antec Sonata II 59.00 a/r
Seagate 7200.10 250gb 16mb of cache 79.00
Samsung DVD-Burner 31.00
Windows XP OEM 89.00
Microsoft Natural key board 36.00

Shipping 30.17

Total 1185.09

Thanks

Sorry I didn't put that the case has an antec 450 smart power in it. Do you think that would be sufficient?

The Sonata is an ok case but I wouldn't trust the included PSU.

How about the Lian Li PC-7B + Seasonic 330 S12?

Thanks for the post. Didn't know Lian Li had affordable cases. I like both of those but not sure if I want to double the price from the sonata.

Thanks for the suggestions on the cases and power supplies gives me something else to consider. Has antec declined in quality or something over the last few years or just the particular model? I am not against using other power supplies, currenlty have an enermax noisetaker in my rig, but the sonata seems like a decent price for a case and power supply.

Is ati's solution for dual monitors as good as nvidia's? I had looked at that card but wasn't sure about that.

Lots of Antec units have been failing. The Neo HE line is pretty good but I personally wouldn't use any of the Antec PSU that are bundled together with the case.

Do you think 330 watt power supply would be sufficient? I know the wattage doesn't mean everything but the video card requires 400.

I've always heard that the PSU's in the Sonata II were pretty solid

...I also have that case and PSU and have never had a problem with it (although my energy needs might be lower - Venice 3000+, 6600gt)

Yes, it will be fine.

Total you are looking probably 150 watts peak at most so 330 watts is more then plenty.
