New System Build

Ok, I'm building a system that is really starting to piss me off. FIrst off here are the specs
Athlon 64 2800
dfi kmlvf (or something like that)
radeon 9600 xt
512 ddr 3200
550 watt psu
windows xp sp2 (fresh install)

I guess thats the important stuff. I have Doom 3 and Farcry installed.I would play Doom for a couple of minutes then the video card would vpu(what ati calls video rebooting).I could start Farcry but the second the I finish loading the first level the whole screen corrupts. I spent an hour or so trying different things with no luck. Eventually I decided to Switch to from agp 8x to 4x. This fixed the problem. Everything works and the card never has to reboot. I dont wanna give this guy his new system with it on 4x agp. Anybody have any ideas as to what could possibly cause the system to hang in 8x mode. Btw, the mobo has onboard video but it is completely disabled so Im sure that is not the problem.

For those of you you are going to tell me to try the card in another system, I have. It works perfectly in MY system(xp 2700), I can even oc it to 575 core and 670 mem.

Is there some kind of issue with A64 and Radeons(prolly not cause I cant find anything on the net). Someone shed some light please!

Yeah it is a really cheap psu, This guy Im building it for picked out the case which came with the psu. The came delivered to his door for $25. But I did just run a 9800 pro with no problems at 8x. I think it might have something to do with the smartgart features the 9600 has.

ok thanks to anyone that helped. The problem was due to agp fastwrites being enabled. Once I disabled that all was better.
Cheers
