Built a new system.
A64 3700 with Zalman cooler
Asus A8N-SLI-Deluxe
Antec 500 watt true power PS
2 gigs of Samsung ECC registered ram (running in non ECC mode) Dual Channel passed 8 hours of memtest86+ no errors
XFX 7900GT OC
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (tried in and out of system known good card from last system)
Windows Media Center Edition 2005 fully updated fresh install

this system has not been stable yet.
random lockups all over the place
case is still open and has 6 fans in it during troubleshooting
heat does not seem to be an issue.

fresh installed the OS and locked up several times while installing items.. and during 3d testing of BF2
still think ram may be the culprit it passed 8 hours of memtest86+ last night though...
what should be the timings and voltage on this system?

removed the soundcard as I suspected it was the culprit but it locked up again booting back into windows with the onboard sound enabled instead.

Also this motherboard was bought secondhand
I did not have the original driver disk for it.
I used the lastest forceware drivers from Nvidia
the only problem is there is still a device that shows in alarm and as "Unknown"
anyone know what this is on this board?
marvell LAN is disabled in bios as is most other accesories on this board.
could it be maybe the cool and quiet driver?
im at a loss.. cool and quiet is also disabled in bios..

called Asus tech support and they were clueless about what it was and said they would give my number to motherboard support.

no call back yet..

please post some advice as I'm at my witts end..

this system is not OCed in anyway..

Have you tried to run system with BIOS @ default settings? Possible try resetting CMOS. Would be nice is you could get ahold of the Asus CD with chipset drivers for that board somehow.

I have an ASUS board that does similar things. An A8N-E to be precise.
I haven't figured it out either, I was told to disable "Legacy USB" in the Bios, which I did, but it still happens.
Now... I don't know if it's the ASUS, or something else, but I have a MSI K8N NEO4 that I'm going to install in it's place
to see if it IS the motherboard at fault.
It won't be for several days though... sorry. :(

Well, still waiting on the replacement board... ZZF has a horrible return system.
I ship it to them PRIORITY mail, 2-3 day. They "process" it for 3 days...
Then they ship it back to me via GROUND shipping. 5-Days. Yeah. I expected at
least 3-day express or something. So this is becoming a 2-week process now, but it's
supposed to be delivered tomorrow (hopefully).

I've been having more and more trouble with my A8N-E including machine_check_exception BSOD's and
now the USB's aren't working... I can't wait to get it out already. :p

Well, I swapped motherboards a couple days ago... NO format, NO repair install. Just plugged it in and everything auto-detected & it's running like a champ!
Couldn't be happier.
The lockups are gone, my USB's work again and even the chipset fan is quieter on the MSI.
Everything about the system is more stable... But it was funny, because the ASUS board played games & did most things well.. Just had some stability problems.
I don't know if it was a problem on my particular board, or all of them, or just a bad mix-match of hardware.
Oh well.
