I brought this up in the OS forum but was told this may be a mobo issue.
I have a new Biostar GeForce 6100-M9. I installed the OS properly. The problem is that it can only boot properly with the boot CD. Even if I disable the CD on the boot order.
Boot using a Linux LiveCD and download the latest BIOS. Flash it using a Win98 startup disk. That's all I can suggest. Either that or try using another PCI IDE controller. You're sure that you've set hard disk to #1 in the boot order? What does it say when it tries to boot? Anything?
Go to www.bootdisk.com and look for something called "No1.44", it's a file called flashcd.zip. Unzip it, burn the .ISO in the zip file (this is your boot disk)
Then burn your BIOS flasher.exe and BIOS.rom file to another CD.
Boot your computer using the boot disc we just made. It'll drop you to a DOS prompt, switch CDs and type:
R:\biosflasher.exe bios.rom
For example, if your biosflasher.exe was awdflash.exe and your BIOS.rom was say k8nlite.rom you'd type (no quotes): R:\awdflash.exe k8nlite.rom
