Hello Anandtech Community,
I am beginning to do some research on parts for a new build. As I have not built a system in over 4 years I'm completely and utterly out of the loop. There are two main drivers for building a new system. First, certain parts of my motherboard have failed over time (ie. I currently only have 2 out of 6 of my USB ports functioning and 2 RAM slots are dead) and I'm being that the board is over 4 years old, replacing it with the same board will be difficult. Second, I plan on getting a 3440x1440 wide screen gaming monitor and want to have a system capable of driving that resolution. Based on my details below hopefully the community will have some ideas on how to move forward:
1. Computer will be used mainly for gaming of all types. However I mainly play the Battlefield series of games (BF4 and BF1) and any RPG I can get my hands on. Stuff like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim type titles.
2. Budget is $1000 USD and I am willing to stretch it a bit if necessary, but spending less is welcome
3. Currently residing in the USA and will be buying parts from the USA.
4. Brand preference. I'd like to stick with Intel for the CPU and AMD for the GPU. Beyond that I have no preferences on brand of PSU, MB, RAM, etc. I have really enjoyed my AsRock motherboard but again I'm not married to that brand.
5. My current build is as follows (I know I'll at least re-use the case, SSDs, keyboard/mouse with the new build - not sure if I can get away with using my current GPU as well):
Corsair C90 Mid Tower Case
Intel i5 2500K
AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 LGA1155 Motherboard
16 GB DD3 Corsair XMS3 1600 4-4-4-9 1.50v
XFX AMD R9 290X Double Dissipation 4GB
Corsair Bronze 750TX PSU (750 watt)
2x Crucial M4 512GB SSDs (CT512M4SSD2CCA)
6. I'm currently overclocking my system and have had it overclocked from day one. I would like a MB/CPU combo that is flexible/stable enough to do the same.
7. I'm currently running an ASUS M278Q 144hz IPS 27" monitor. I plan on getting into the 34" ultrawide arena and will most likely get something that supports freesync, 3440x1440, and at least 90hz refresh rate or higher.
8. My plan on building is sooner than later. Probably within the next 30 days give or take a few.
9. No software necessary.
As an added note I was initially looking at these parts as potential new build candidates:
Intel i5 6600K
Asrock Z170-Pro4 LGA 1151 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200 RAM
My apologies if I left any details out. Thanks for any suggestions provided!
