New system build - a few questions

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Mostly just basic stuff, some light gaming.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread.

Trying to keep it under $600.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

US, Newegg.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

Nope.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Planning on reusing HDs, CD drive, power supply.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Yesh.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Not a big OCer, nothing I can't do on stock cooling for right now at least.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

The sooner the better.

Gonna get a OCZ 4GB DDR2 kit. I'm not missing out by not going DDR3 am I?

So far I'm thinking a Phenom II 720 and GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P combo, I'm not sure if i want to spend the extra for the 790x vs. a 770 board but with the combo deal it's only about $10 more which seems worth it even if I don't do crossfire ever.

For the video card I'm split between getting a 4770 or a 4850 1gb. They're the same price on newegg right now, does the extra ram make a difference at 1920x1080 or 1680x1050?

Last thing I'm torn on is a monitor. I'm considering the Dell S2209W. Are there any other good 22" 1080p or 22" IPS screens for around or less than $200?

How are you going to get a 22" non-TN monitor, Phenom II, mobo, 4GB DDR2, Radeon 4850 all for under $400 shipped? 😕

It could happen, maybe not under 400 but not much over, and probably under 600.... Phenom II and mobo combo $220, 4GB $30AR, 4850 $85 AR... so that's like $330...

* What type of HD's are you bringing over? SATA/IDE?? and how many?
* What type of CD/DVD drives are you bringing over? SATA/IDE?? and how many?
* What is the PSU that your bringing over? How old is it? Does it come with the 6 pin PCI-e power connector for the GPU?
* Does your budget include the OS?

Two SATA HDs, IDE CD Burner, Antec earthwatts 500W with the pcie connector, and I'm gonna use the Windows7 RC or Ubuntu until W7 comes out.

I'm torn between a Dell S2209W or a 2209WA. IPS or 1080p.
