hi, this is my first time building my own system. I've already bought case duron700, elsa modem, hercules mx dual disp., (1) 128mb stick of ram and (1) 64 mb stick of ram, both rated at pc150 222, a maxtor 30gig 7200 hd, a ls120 floppy, linksys etherfast 10/100, and a tdk velocd 12X10X32.

I'm unsure of what mobo to get, i've heard awful things about the abit, raid controller and many others, the asus i've heard ok things about, pci slots, and i havent really heard that much about the MSI. I'm probably gonna be overclocking, and i'm completely lost on the mobo issue. Opinions are very welcome.

Definately get the MSI K7T Pro2-A. This board is rock stable and has great overclocking abilities. It supports ATA100 for that hard drive. =) You can find a review of it here @ Tweak Town.

I have an A7V, but I would have to say go with the MSI. Not that I am not happy with the Asus, but the MSI is cheaper, offers comparable (if not better features, like BIOS multiplier adjustments), and from what I hear its easier to setup too.

I also got an A7V, which will give you the best performance. SharkyExtreme used the A7V to compare to the DDR RAM Tyan motherboard and they said it had the best performance. The way I see it, you should either get the Abit KT7, or the ASUS A&V, I'd go with the A7V, just remember to install the drivers.
