ok i got 50 bucks. my system is
athlon xp 2000
512MB PC2700
radeon 9000 pro

i was thinking i could get an athlon xp 1700 and overclock it to a 2600(12.5X166, because i have pc2700). Would it do this? It will be on air, for a few days then my water cooler will be in. Would it run stabliy on air? Becuase i here the 1700s are great overclockers, just wanted to be sure.

If you're mother board has PCI/AGP lock and you've got adequate cooling, then yes.

You don't need water to keep that processor cool at 2 Ghz. If you were shooting for 2.4 or 2.5 then yeah.

im shooting for 2.08 ghz, no more, im getting water so that my system will be quieter, and so that my video card will oc better on the core because the 9000 pro's weakenss is its fillrate, and if i oc it, that weakness will disapear.

Spend just a bit more for DLT3C JIUHB XP1700+. They're capable of 1GHz overclock air-cooled. Excaliber has them.

Hope this helps!
