New Super Cheap SSD drives

Anyone hear of these http://www.trustedreviews.com/...s-Halves-SSD-Prices/p1 ?

They are new SSD drives from OCZ that are upto 50% cheaper than competting drives yet still retain 120MB/90MB read/write speeds. They use MLC (Multi Level Cell) technology to keep the cost down, or something like that.

A retailer in the UK http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...701&catid=14&subid=910 has started listing them. Seems to good to be true.

Anyone seen any early reviews of these?

I'm curious about those myself, a few of the stores I have looked at said they were going to be in stock by mid-week, so hopefully we will get some reviews.

The capacity/speed/price ratio of those compares to previous ssd makes them seem almost too good to be true, but of course all we have to go on right now is the manufacturer numbers. If they are for real Seagate/Hitachi/etc are going to get pounded in the notebook/desktop market in the next few years.

I heard about these a while ago...some early competition for Intel when they roll out their SSD, they are suppose to have a 32GB model for 170$ as well, i think the difference is they use chips that are slower and wear quicker, but if you do not put any sort of cache on it, then it should last a long time

Looks like they are 20-30% faster depending on the workload, going by this review.

That review is referring the previous SLC-based OCZ unit. The core series model is cheaper, and probably slower because it uses MLC.

Looks like you are right, I just assumed that since they released a review right when the new "core" series went on sale that this is what they would be reviewing.

As for speed I had heard, like you, that the new ones would be slower (can't remember where though). But according to the OCZ website:
OCZ SATA II (silver) - 100/80 read/write in MB/s
OCZ Core Series (black) - 120-143/80-93 read/write in MB/s

OCZ sales told me OCZ MLC SSDs were made by RITEK

RITEK is the manufacturer on DVD media, Flash memory, USB storage and SSD. They OEM for SONY, Toshiba, HP, Maxwell......

RITEK also have their own brand of RIDATA, RIDATA SSD is the best, I remember they got best of CES this year...

OCZ sales also said, RITEK will let them sell first. later RIDATA will have MLC SSD too but cheaper...

OCZ could not post real test result because they did not have the product yet, quoted by OCZ sales.
