hey everyone i'm trying to setup a rig for a family friend of mines for their children. They computer craped out on them so i told them i can salvage them a computer for cheap. Budget is a very low budget like around 100$ USD

Good thing is that i dont need some of the things. I have a HD and CD-R drive. Also a couple of sticks of PC 100 and Pc133 totalling 256mb i think.

The rig isn't going to be much. Its going to be more of a web surfing and homework type thing. Projects on word maybe powerpoint. THe father might do some office work nothing too serious.

My main issue is finding a board that supports SDRAM. If someone can suggest a rig for me that would be great. I'm currently looking at a MSI k7t Turbo with a 950mhz T-bird. How are your views on that?

Sorry if i'm not allowed to post questions like this but i was unable to find a sticky on the rules. Thanks for all your help.

Also i need a place where i can get it. Pricewatch.com isn't constant enough for me. Keep in mind my $100 rig. must be case, board, CPU, heatsink, fan. that should be all.

despite what people say about MSI, the K7T Turbo IMO is one of the best boards MSI has ever made.. I had one which I recently sold *tear* which gave me like 3 years of RELIABLE problem free service.
that combo would work fine... but if you CAN find a faster setup for similar LIKE the ECS/1700 suggestion, that might work better... HOWEVER ECS boards IMO are completely worthless and I would not want that trash in my system personally. the only benefit of the ECS is it supports both SDR/DDR RAM.

good luck!

yea i'm a little more MSI then ECS. But i hear they are decent boards. I find the MSI boards harder to find then the ECS. But how many cases have ECS been proven to be crap ?

How would you rate a celeron build?

Retail P4 Northwood Celeron 2GHz and a Tyan PC133 Workstation Board

Grab a PIII/Celly mobo/cpu combo off the FS/T forums here. I just picked up a 900mhz Celly on some ASUS board for like $25.
