1st TL sub build.

Helped a buddy build a 15" TL sub tuned to 25hz (137" port length) since he doesn't have any wood working equipment.

He still has to veneer it and add grill cloth to the front.

That thing is awesome for low bass, outside of his house rattles with bass in the teens.

Totally non directional and blends with any song, if you stand up as to not feel the couch vibrate you have no idea where it comes from.

Never build one before, and wanted to. Lol

That pretty much sums it up. Want to build some horns in the future too and a line array.

With the TL we just did the 1:1 cone sd to port sd and the quarter wave length of 25hz. If I do one for my house it will be longer and thinner. His is 24"x45"x34" iirc

Thanks, just like any other project, there are things I'll try next time to make it a little better.

I'm finding a hard time understanding the box size, driver size, and horn loaded nature of the build ends up with a tuning of only 25hz. I'd think that would be more like 12hz.

Went here:
http://www.mcsquared.com/wavelength.htm
Got wavelength of 25hz and divided by 4 for quarter wave(135.6").

Went with a straight TL which I've read as the port area being equal to the cone SD.

Like I said, first TL. I know there can be a lot more to it as in the MJK simulation, but we just used the basics.

If you have any tips or input for the next one, that would be great.

I know at 13hz the cone seemed to be more controlled than below that, maybe as it's around half of 25hz? 1/8th wavelength?

There are amateur reproductions of that available, but the actual kit does not have dimensioned plans.

Any plans for that around? It says it used to be a DIY kit.

I've been trying to dig up more information on it. From what I've read, Danley Sound sold it initially as a DIY kit (no plans - just parts) for around a grand, and now sells a finished passive model for around $3k. It uses a pair of Eminence-built 12" subs, which don't seem to be available anywhere else:

I did some googling on clones and found this one:

http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/creative-sound-solutions/37767-dual-sdx10-tapped-horn.html

The kit price isn't too bad for pre-cut wood and two drivers...my 40" Sonosub is ringing in at around $450 in parts right now, but only goes down to 20 Hz, so double the price for 10 Hz seems about reasonable for two large subs and pre-cut wood. I haven't seen a system on the market (or off) that can do what the DTS-10 can do.
