New stock exchange for blacks only!(in Zimbabwe)

Wow, there is crazy and then there is batshit crazy and then there is Zimbabwe. The president has promised to sieze 51% of all foreign businesses that are worth over $7B and sell shares of the company on a new stock exchange. For icing on the cake the new stock exchange will be for black people only.

No this is not an onion article, I actually had to find a few different versions of the article to ensure it was real.

Zimbabwe's regime has promised to open a new and racially exclusive stock exchange, allowing blacks alone to trade shares seized from foreign companies.

Saviour Kasukawere, the 'indigenisation' minister, said on Tuesday that the government or black Zimbabweans would take 51 per cent of the shares in all major foreign-owned companies, valued at about £4.8 billion. No compensation will be paid.
The regime wants to control mining companies and in particular Zimplats, a major platinum producer which is largely owned by South Africa's Impala Platinum Holdings.
Mr Kasukawere said that mining companies which do not "cede" 51 per cent of their shares to black Zimbabweans or the state would risk losing their operating licenses.
He said the value of the natural resources or underground metals extracted by the companies were sufficient to pay for majority shareholdings.

Psychology Maziwisa, spokesman for the ruling Zanu-PF party, confirmed that Mr Kasukawere's remarks were official policy. "All of this is correct. Its what we told voters we will do," he said.

Metals and minerals, including platinum and gold, accounted for 71 per cent, or £480 million, of Zimbabwe's total exports last year.

I would normally comment on how he should be careful about how he treats the industry that is responsible for almost 3/4 of its exports but this is just too damn funny. I can't wait to see what they do next.

Yup. I read that even though no family was supposed to get more than 1 of the seized farms the presidents family somehow managed to end up with something like 50 of them. I am sure it was just a paperwork snafu or something.

Fascinating first-hand look at this situation. It's pretty much the extreme end-result of rampant entitlement mentality on steroids.

The thing is, I (and probably most rational people) recognize that Africa was majorly f'd over by Europeans. But the way today's corrupt tyrants attempt to swing the pendulum of f'ing people over (and mostly those that had nothing personally to do with past injustices) in the opposite direction is just as wrong.

It's the same mentality as those seeking to 'redistribute' someone else's wealth based on entitlement mentality as well as a sense that assigning blame to the people you're stealing from based on some historic injustice, justifies your current desire for theft. It's the mindset of someone who blames all whites today for slavery of 150 years ago, therefore fleecing people based on that is justified.
