CCBWE 0551 VPMW

This seems like a very new stepping... I couldn't dig anything out of google or the search feature. Any ideas? I won't be able to assemble the system until saturday afternoon, and it would be nice to know what to expect...

I got the same chip from Monarch Wednesday but won't get to install it till next week. Let us know how it does and I'll do the same.

It's an Opteron 165...hopefully its better than the 0550 UPMW's :). I just missed getting one of those by a few hours it seems. A lot of people who ordered from monarch the same day as me got the 0550 UPMW's; maybe its because I got it in a combo deal.

I received this stepping from Monarch yesterday. I bought a combo with the retail AMD Opteron 165 and Asrock 939Dual-SATA2. The CPU and heatsink were already installed when I got the combo, but I pulled the heatsink off about 15 minutes ago (replacing the retail thermal material with something else).

I've been holding off on trying for a big overclock until I replace the thermal material. Thus far, I've only bumped the CPU up to 2.1GHz.

I paid $291 for the retail CPU with combo purchase, so I didn't do too bad...

So far max stable is 2.6GHz. 2.65GHz freezes during superpi, and 2.7ghz fails prime within seconds. This is at 1.5vcore too (1.525bios) :(. CPU temperatures are great though. 28°C idle, 45°C load.

Any chance it's a board issue?

289x9 = 2600mhz at 1.47vcore. I can't even get to 2650 with 1.6volts :(.

I'll attach screenies sometime later.

How would it be a board issue? I'm running a DFI NF4 SLI-DR...not that its immune to problems, but its a quality board.

338x8 = 2704mhz fails. I will try to increase the vcore even more when i get home though. I set it to 1.59 in bios but its only 1.55 actual.

Definetely not a board issue :p
By "Any chance it's a board issue" I was attempting to be hopeful that the chip was godly and that it was something else.

My 0551 VPMW sucks...core 0 craps out at anything about 2.3 GHz (even at 1.45V) :(

I know that, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be disappointed with my results. (In comparison to others...I wasn't expecting a 3GHz monster, but I would've liked 2.4GHz)
