What do you like more, the new sci-fi where mostly everything is CG and green screened or the old school where they actually built props and lifesized mock ups.

actually, I think CG looks too fake, and unbelievable sometimes. I like the old school where they actually built the ships that you see.

i thought the last two (Episode 2 and 3) were both pretty decent, and at the level of episode 5 and 6. Never liked a New Hope or Phantom Menace.

The first 3 that came out were my favs, just for the nostalgic appeal of them. I saw them at the theatres when they came out in the late 70's and early 80's.

IBL!!!

I do like oldschool more. Gives it more of a possible look. Liek HHGTTG had the puppets brought back, which was good.

CGI has it's place, but the actors just don't respond to their environments nearly as nicely. I call old-school.

Episode 1 : 5/10 (meh)
Episode 2 : 2/10 (drama, bah!, give me "The Last Star Fighter" instead)
Episode 3 : 6/10 (best of the "new" ones)
Episode 4 : 6/10 (good)
Episode 5 : 10/10 (best overall)
Episode 6 :7/10 (good)

Let's put it this way, if Lucas did 1-3 first and released 4-6 later, the star wars box office will be much smaller.

this is retarded. theyre absolutely incomparable. prequels are enjoyable, fun to watch. episode 3 is awesome.
but the original trilogy is absolutely classic film- there just isnt anything better- star wars IS the benchmark. completely incomparable.

how is this even a debate! The new star wars movies (except for ep 3) are a disgrace to the original series in almost every aspect besides the obvious eye candy improvements. The original star wars had much more flavorful and memorable characters, all who were played by superior actors. I felt the entire sense of companionship that made the original series sparkle was completely absent in the new series. Not only that, but the new series was spoiled by a fake and poorly constructed romance. The development of the main character is also handled much better. Luke's story borrows from mythology to make the original series a modern epic. And how can we forget how amazingly poor some of the writing is in the new series? There have been so many lines that I have scoffed at in the new series, who is writing this crap? Episode III was a bright spot in this poor series, I have to admit that it felt much closer to the original series. Still, the ridiculous romance and some poorly written parts spoiled that as well.

Lets also not forget that the originas were talkign about the UNTOUCHED first three before Pukeus decided to add a buch of f'ed up crap in them to make them "better".
I wish they would release the original untouched first last 3 episodes again on dvd or make that atleast an option when/if it comes to dvd as a boxed set of all 6.

I like all of them. However, I definitely like some better than others.

My order of preference (best to worst) :
5: Empire Strikes Back
3: Revenge of the Sith
6: Return of the Jedi
2: Attack of the Clones
4: A New Hope
1: The Phantom Menace

I prefered the puppet Yoda and Jabba to the CG ones. The CG's had more smooth movements, but they had a weird plastic like shine that made them look fake.

I think computer graphics is still "not there yet", or at least it's not nearly as good as Silicon Valley nerds claim it is. I think producers like it because it's cheaper than making a good puppet.

^^ wrath of Khan - and definately way better than all the newest Star Wars movies & the old ones with added scenes.

And no, Revenge of the Sith is not a good movie, you're only conned into thinking that because the last two sucked horrendously. I could not believe the progression of events, the whole movie was like, let's show off a ton of cg graphics & effects to dazzle the eye - but when it comes down to plot, we really don't have enough time to properly make all the transitions, so let's not even try, just make the transition and be done with it.

For this thread, cg can work, but it's up to the actors to make it work. And in the latest star wars movies, bad actors + bad acting = terrible movies. Cg worked for the lord of the rings, but that's because the actors interact with the cg so much better.

Setting aside the CG and puppets stuff altogether, the original 3 were the best. In so many ways I might add:)
