Since more than two people are interested in the new show - does anyone have a idea what the ship is going to be like? Is it a "Enterprise" vessel, or something just before the tech in Star Trek: TOS?

I hope Dean Stockwell takes the role of the first office. His tricorder will be made of Day-Glo colored Legos, of course.

The series is supposed to be based a hundred years before Kirk, Spock et al in TOS. That will put it somewhere around 2160. Supposedly the founding of the Federation and the initial disastrous first contact with the Klingons happens around this time in the ST timeline.

The Enterprise is going to be a hunk of crap, apparently. They'll be puttering around the galaxy with lasers at a maximum of Warp 2. Wowee.

Don't get me wrong, I love ST, but I think "Enterprise" is going to blow chunks.

its gonna be exactly like the original serires: a captain who'd rather fight than act like a captain, a ship going around space really slow, and all puke-tone colors!

If that's gonna be so, it reminds me of an episode from ST: DS9 (?) where they somehow went back in time and "met" with the original crew of Star Trek where Kirk was a captain. Darn cool episode! They actually digitised quite a lot of the characters ;)

I dunno what to think about this series, I never got into Star Trek until TNG, so the older Star Trek never had all that much appeal... all I can think of is that they won't have all the cool new technology and will be limited in the number of new races since the future is pretty much set...
so no Borg, Transwarp, Quantum/Transphasic Torpedoes, fleets of Defiants, Holo-technology, high powered phasers, etc, etc....
But who knows...maybe they'll get really creative with it...here's hoping! :)

I'm confident in the new series. As long as Captain Bakula doesn't use his "Oh boy!" line that was way overdone in the Quantum Leap series.

I'm interested in how they are going to do it, tho. I'd think it would be hard to make the show look good and new, but of older tech than the cheesy original series. I liked the orginal and still do, but it wouldn't look right in a new series. I hear they will have push button control consoles like the original series...

Well i am sorry but i don't share everybody's euthasiasm. I am not a big fan of this "prequel" idea, and i really don't see Scott Bacula in a Star Trek role. That being said, i am always against a change of any long lasting trend, which has always been on a starship/station in the future, lol. So this whole idea of going backward is not that exciting to me...BUT, i will watch it because i am still a star trek fan AND because it would be very cool to see how we met all the different races!

really don't see Scott Bakula [SIC] in a Star Trek role.

He did Clive Barker well enough; give the guy some credit, he's a talented actor.
