New SSD

I'm looking to buy a reasonably priced SSD drive for my GF, just to install windows and a game or two (mainly to reduce load times in Guild Wars 2), so a 120/128GB should do the trick.

From what I've seen it seems quite packed with decent choices.

Samsung 840 EVO
Kingston HyperX 3K
Sandisk Extreme II

Any preferences? Any other models worth looking for

I haven't used any. But, going by what I know, I would suggest you to either go for SanDisk or Samsung. Ditch Kingston completely as they don't make there own chips at all. They simply put there stickers after buying it from SanDisk, Samsung etc.

From those 2 I would go for the one that provides the maximum warranty. Although, both should be good enough to consider.

Others:
Toshiba "Q" THNSNH (green box)
Sandisk Ultra Plus

For a use case like yours, any of them will likely be indistinguishable from one another. The Sandisk Extreme II would be silly, IMO. It won't be worth its cost without giving it a much harsher workload than loading a game or two.

It is working fine and now she can waypoint and load before the champions are killed during scarlet invasions in GW2.

🙂

Generally speaking any current generation SSD is fine.
If you were to pick the top few and buy only based on price you'd be ok imo.
