I just got a new OWC 40Gb SSD today. I'm using it as my boot drive for windows 7 professional. I can't seem to get the drive to perform anywhere near the advertised 285/MB read and 265/MB write speeds.

My Info:
AMD x4 b55 @ 3.6ghz
8 gig ddr3 Ram
gts 450 sli
asus m4n98td EVO MB 980a sli
WD 1TB HDD as data drive
OWC SSD (sandforce controller)

I have trim enabled, AHCI enabled in the BIOS, and have done a few other minor tweaks. Nothing I seem to do gets me close to the advertised speeds. This is a typical HD tune benchmark for the drive:

Anyone have any clue why I can't seem to get this working properly?

Thanks to any who take the time to help.

The 980 only does SATA 3gb and is a older design that was well before all the SSD's starting getting big. Not sure how much the chipset limit is but it will be there.

That and 40gb SSDs are slower due to fewwer memory chips.

Also who is OWC? Do you mean OCZ?

Try posting this in the Memory and Storage section. You will get more SSD users there.

Thanks for the replies folks.

OWC is a primarily mac parts supplier. I bought this drive due to great reviews and price.

Yah, after a little more googling around I found that Nvidia SATA controllers are not so great. I changed the driver from Nvidia's to a basic Windows AHCI driver and while my benchmarks aren't fantastic, the computer runs like a cheetah. I'm seeing avg read in the 230MBps range now and burst into 270MBps.

What I don't understand is why the graph jumps around like a rollercoaster? Any know a reason for this?
