Hello all, so I just got an Intel X25-M Gen2 80gb SSD and am LOVING it! I have a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobo, upon installing the SSD I set the SATA controller to AHCI so everything is fine with the SSD and all my HDD's. However my mobo has a gigabyte raid controller with 2 more SATA ports and an PATA port. My DVD burner is a few years old and is a PATA drive. When I installed windows on the SSD it was my first time adjusting the AHCI options in my bios thus I set the gigabyte ports set to AHCI also so windows installed the DVD burner in AHCI mode. I really dislike having the gigabyte controller set to ahci because it adds another bios boot screen brining the total to 4 boot screens, POST, Intel SATA, Gigabyte SATA and the verifying DMI pool data screen. I want to put the gigabyte controller and thusly the DVD burner back to IDE mode to cut out a boot screen.

The problem is when I set the gigabyte controller back to IDE mode Windows 7 will not reckognize the DVD drive. On the intial bios boot screen it detects the drive. In my windows logs everytime Windows 7 boots there is an entry saying the DVD drive failed to load, with no additional info. My question is how can I get Windows 7 to detect this drive in IDE mode now?? Thanks in advance for any help.

Try going into the device manager. If you can see the DVD burner, it probably has an exclamation mark. Uninstall it, reboot, done.

If you cannot see it, you probably have to reinstall the JMicron (gigabyte) drivers for windows to recognize the IDE port.

Good luck

Uninstalling/reinstalling the Gigabyte controller worked like a charm. It uninstalled everything on my system in relation to SATA and IDE ports but upon reboot everything reinstalled propery and works great now. Thanks alot Alex.
