SCP - 8100 Closed Picture (High Res)
SCP - 8100 Open (High Res)

Specs from Sanyo.com

Update: it can be purchased at bestbuy.com, radioshack.com, and circuitcity.com for $199.99. In my opinion it is a much better deal than the Sanyo 5300 which sells for $400.

There is also a $100 MIR with the phone for new customers so its a smoking deal for new members. This makes the cost of the phone to only $100

Update 2:
5300 Price: $400
8100 Price: $200 (cheaper)

5300 features: Has flash and zoom
8100: Does not have flash or zoom (lacks features)

5300 Camera Resolution: 310,000 pixels
8100 Camera Resolution: 100,000 pixels (lower quality)

5300 Dimensions: 3.7" x 1.9" x 1.1"
8100 Dimensions: 3.33" x 1.86" x 1.14" (smaller)

5300 Internal Screen: 2.1" 65k-color TFT LCD.
8100 Internal Screen: 1.75" 65k-color STN LCD. (lower quality and smaller)

5300 External Screen: External 1" 65k-color display (same)
8100 External Screen: External 1" 65k-color STN LCD (same)

5300 Weight: 4.13 oz
8100 Weight: 3.88 oz (lighter)

I just saw that you can get a free bluetooth headset when you get a Motorola V66 phone -- I think it was from Verizon in today's newspaper insert. Not sure of the store that's offering this deal (its not direct from Verizon).

Anyone else see this?

its 99$ at radio shack for new custumers, with a 100$ IR. i played with the phone we got one in the other day and the picture quality sucks compared to the sanyo 5300. But saving pics is alot quicker, i guess there half the size.

very sweet phone my boss let me return my "broken" LG 5350 and swap it out for it I like it alot only downside is that the camera res is 352x240 :( compared to the 640x480 on the 5300 but I ain't paying 400 for that.

Guys, it's 162.99 at CC online right now. Myself and a buddy just went to a local CC and told them to pricematch their website price and they did it gladly.

I just picked this phone up today ($20 total after swapping my $179 n400 for it. Go Best Buy Service Plan!) and I must say it kicks ass. Sure, the picture quality isn't the same, but I could really care less. I mean, it is just a phone anyway. If I want a high-res photo I'll use my digicam.

excuse me, still am noob.
About the phone its, $200 at radio shack, there's $100 IR on it for new customers, the resolution on it is much lower than the 5300 and there's no zoom. However it is cheaper, has longer battery and gives you options like adding borders to your pictures, etc..

This is hot to me since my LG5350 keeps shutting off by itself...i think it's time I use my CC service plan also. RadioActive: You notice any improvement or decrease in talk time, battery life and reception compared to the LG5350?

I think the LG has pretty good battery life (compared to the Samsung A460 I had before) and the reception is decent too...just wanted to get some thoughts on switching over.

well it seems to have just about the same talk time as my 5350 (could make it a day barely on a charge thats 6am to 1am) haven't really pushed it yet since I haven't had it for more than a day I'm leaving on vacation next week so I'll really put it to a test then

CC has it in the Ad for $199=$100 MIR for new customers, and RadioShack has it for $99 after $100 IR for new customers/new lines. I added my brother to my uber-plan at RadioShack and he loves the phone. Personally, at least in the Cleveland, OH area, the Sanyo phones' reception is FAR superior to either the LG or Samsung phones, and that made this phone the best deal for me. I almost switched to the Sanyo 4900 just for the reception when I stumbed on this phone yesterday at Best Buy.

Flip Phone + GREAT Reception + Camera + Front Color LCD + $CHEAP = GREAT DEAL for me.

Nice deal kt. PDubs, did you pay $179 for your phone? The service plan applies to the cost of the phone after any instant rebates, but before MIR's. I signed up for Sprint 3 years ago and paid $179 for the Samsung 3500 then, and I'm still reaping the rewards of BB's service plan!

Samsung 3500
LG TouchPoint 2100
Samsung 8500
Samsung n200
Samsung A400
Samsung n400
Sanyo 8100

All on Best Buy's service plan for a total cost of $200 (as of now, with the extra $20 for the 8100)

No, I paid $200 for my LG 5250 (I had it first darn it!). In a month, it was garbage so then I paid a little more to get the 5350. Now THAT one is being stupid because I can't use it as a wireless modem. So if this is only $179, I'm so there because I started my three year plan in 2002. I hope to acquire a cell phone list as long as yours. :)

Does anyone know if this has data capability for use as a wireless modem? That was one feature I got my original Motorola Timeport P8167 and then this LG 5350 for, but both have proven faulty.

YES, this phone has data capability for use as a wireless modem. You need a USB adapter or something like that, not sure how that all works. Also, you will get money back for this phone! Rock on!

Some have scored this phone for $150.

BestBuy is/was offering 25% off. When I tried my local BB, the rep claimed the 8100 was exempt. Some people have had luck at both BB or pricematching at Circuit City to BB.

Instead, I pmed to the cc website. It was $159 after PM. There is a $100 MIR for new activation.

Unfortunately, the price on CC website is now $199.

As for data/modem, pick up a usb cable on ebay or radio shack. Mine was $19.99. Download drivers from Sanyo's site. Then use it like any other dial up modem.

Do you know if the USB data cables for the 4900/5300 phones are compatible with the 8100? Or they are slightly different??

4900/5300 cables are compatible with 8100.

I bought the cable for the 4900 from RadioShack for use with my 8100.
