New spindle of SONY dvd-R give error msg

I have a Pioneer DVD recorder model DVR-AO7XLB and have burned many many many of my original dvd movies for safe keeping. So far i have used DVD-R brands like Fujifilm, Memorex and TDK with no errors at all.

I bought a 50 pack of SONY brand DVD-Rs 1x-4x speed and i always get this error msg: "General error reading drive. Check drive hardware and try again"

I have updated to the latest drive firmware and using the other above mentioned dvd-rs again never gives an error whatso ever. Any one else have problems with sony dvd-r media? Will comp USA take back an opened package of DVD-R media?
