There is a new high-tech swim suit developed by Speedo whose effects are sending a tidal wave :)laugh:) through the swimming community. All this is made even more important by the fact that the Summer Olympics are this year.

Swimmers wearing the new suit have already broken 13 world records, including setting 8 new world records in 5 days. This is unheard of, since some of those records have stood for two decades or more.

The suit is 100% legal under current rules, but the International Swimming Federation is going to review their rules ahead of the Olympics to determine whether they should make a change. Unlike other sports where a different brand of shoes or a different jersey don't make a critical difference, swimming is one sport where it can make a significant difference.

Although the suit is available to everyone, swimmers/countries under contract with companies other than Speedo might not be able to wear the new suit during the Olympics (without breaching their contract), which would all but assure their defeat.

Full body suit with special "membrane" panels replacing traditional woven fabric on certain body sections that dramatically reduce drag.

Less drag = more speed = less oxygen consumption

They also got rid of seams, instead putting it together using ultrasonic welds. It was tested in cooperation with NASA using very high-tech modeling programs, wind tunnels and water tunnels.

During the last summer olympics, wasn't there a similar story (new type of swimsuit, helping people break a bunch of records).

Yes, but think about all of the grape smugglers that have been put out of business.

To me, this isn't much different for performance enhancers, tbh. This is equipment that increases your performance in a competition. Steroids or HGH do the same thing, just on the biological level.

Personally I don't care either way if professional athletes use performance enhancers though... doesn't change my opinion of a sport at all.

Should just let all the athletes take whatever the hell performance drugs they want. I mean how is competing with Lance and Tiger fair when they're born w/ super human stats and you're not.

This is an outrage! The only solution is to make them compete naked. I guarantee viewership would be up this year.

Nah. I went to CMHS -> OCC -> USC.

So I guess it's a LA/SOCAL thing?

This suit thing has been around since at least the last Olympics, because I remember exactly the same stories floating around about Ian Thorpe's decision to wear one.

EDIT: but obviously not this suit, I guess.

Adam Corolla used to say that all the time when he was on Loveline.

The only other person I know that used that word went to Harvard Westlake. Is it used a lot in OC?

I actually only knew of one other guy (locally) that used it. He went to UCI. I hear it more often online though.

lol from wiki: Carolla attended Colfax Elementary School, Walter Reed Junior High, and North Hollywood High School.

lol Harvard Westlake is in North Hollywood. Coincidence?
