NEW Speakers?

i have had my trusty 560s now for years...still work great, but think I am missing out on the middle channel and some and new technology...

i have a creative blaster x-fi platinum.

Worth getting the upgrade to watch movies, play the games etc? Better speakers for 166.00 shipped?

or should i just get different sound card?

will be running vista64 ultimate.

z-560 to z-5500 is kind of a lateral move.

People are split on whether or not they like the z-5500 sub better and it seems like the sats on the z-560s may actually be better.

As far as "new technology" is concerned, you would have more connectivity options with z-5500s. In most cases plain old analog is still the best option. You would be able to easily connect game systems and such to the z-5500s if that's a concern for you.

A center channel is most important when you're not really in the sweet spot for listening. If your z-560s are set up well, you should be able to get good enough imaging from a single seating position to get the effect of having a center channel between the two front speakers. If you're off to the side though or your speakers aren't set up well or more than one person are listening... then a center channel can be significant.

Don't get a new soundcard unless there's something in particular you don't like about yours or there's something specific you need from a new one (does the card work with vista64 ultimate?)

So anyway these speakers may or may not be an upgrade for you. If you sell the z-560s though, the cost to switch up to the z-5500s will be pretty low.

Thank you very much for your time and response. Good food for thought. I guess the real upgrade would be to move toward an amp and real speakers...I have a nice home AV system...I will save my money for something else, the 560s will do until they go out. I def have gotten my moneys worth from them

I got my money's worth out of my z-560s too.

Funboy42 has been using a combination of several of the Logitech sets including z-5500s / z-560s / (maybe z-680s?) if you want to get some input from him.

Last I heard he was using the z-560/z-680 sats with the z-5500 subs.

Damn straight, the 560 680 speakers give you a little more mid to the set.Also they are 8 ohms, so you can pretty much put in any 8ohms book shelf set you want. Its not as if your set with one speaker. The amp is a amp, as long as your not trying to drive 15" subs with 4 8" mids, and 3 2" tweets, it will be fine. But I highly recommend dumping the oem 5500 sets for the older versions, they are also slightly bigger, and much better feel as far as build.
