im getting a new speaker system, it comes with dolby digital surround sound, to get the full use of it, should I go get a sound card? or will my mobo sound be equivalent?

We are going to need hte name and model of your motherboard to help you with that. Reply back w/ that please

Most new mobos come w/ 5.1 enve 7.1 nowadays (at least the midrange and up) but if yours is old, it may not, but agian, post the anme and model of your mobo, if you cna find that out....

Thanks, i thought I should give more details, my mobo, is an MSI nForce 2 Chipset Based, K7N2 Delta series, now being a slight jackass, i just remembered maybe I should of checked the manual to see if it says anything about 5.1, but still, what benefit is a sound card over mobo sound?

Well, in response, it depends on what you are going to be using it for. It will offer better quality in sound, but if you don't consider yourself an audiophile, it may not make a difference. Furthermore, a sound card does increase the framerates in games, because the sound card takes the brunt of processing hte audio, however, this is very SLIGHT, i may add.

I personally have a 5.1 audio setup and my mobo supports 5.1, so i stick w/ that and DON'T have a soundcard, and im perfectly ahppy. hope that helps

ANd if you don't mind, partly out of curiousity, what speakers did you get???

Ok, not a bad bargain setup. Your mobo will def be able to handle what you will be using that bad boy for. Enjoy hte new experience that is surround sound. You will know what i mean when you watch your first DVD on there. enojoy
