New soundcard?

It's been forever since I have even thought about upgrading my soundcard. I still have a SB Live Value. If I'm fine with the sound quality, will a newer soundcard help with FPS in games at all? I guess I'm assuming a newer card would be able to handle the game sounds better but I really don't know.

I don't think adding a soundcard is a great way to spend money to increase your performance unless you have a really up to date system in all other respects.

If you have 512mb or ram for example, adding another 512 for about the cost of these cards would give you a significantly better performance increase than a soundcard upgrade.

We're talking single digit performance % for a new soundcard.

If you have a really nice system other than the soundcard, then yeah, it will help but otherwise I think the money is best spend elsewhere.
 
Yeah I have an Athlon 3200+ with 1 gig PC3200 ram and a 6600GT video card. Not the latest and greatest but it is still pretty good.
