New sound card.

Well for some reason my onboard ALC650 will not produce 5.1 sound with my z640's in games any more. It only works in the control panel. And, I think it is time to replace my old mx300 (which is also in my case) for a supported sound card. So, I want to get a new sound card. I am looking at an Audigy 2 oem for about $70. My question is will anyone be releasing a better sound card anytime soon. The Audigy 2 has been out for a while right?

P.S. I will use it for gaming not music.

audigy2 sounds like a good choice for what you want it to do. I haven't heard of anything new coming up that would be a better choice that the Audigy.

A2 is the best gaming card out there bud 🙂

I have heard there might be a successor going to be out later this year though (A3?).

There are a couple things about the Audigy2 that bug me.
They have some 16-bit paths in their card which you would have
to be sure to avoid if you were doing 24-bit work.
I would like to do 24-bit/44.1KHz recording. That's not an ideal mode on
the Audigy2, so it's not my first choice.

Here's some info on the Terratec Aureon. Terratec seems to be
using some stellar parts in their new stuff:
