Hiya folks...

My Santa Cruz soundcard is coming in this week, and when installing it, how do I ensure that my existing onboard sound drivers are removed properly? I know how to physically install the card, but I'm not 100% sure as to how to remove the existing drivers. I'm using an NEC Ready computer, with Win 98. Any info, or a how-to website would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks in advance...

Dave

1. Disable on-board sound in your BIOS
2. If you have a sound card. go into device manager and remove it
3. Shut Down
4. Take off case
5. Remove the screw holding your sound card in. Wiggle up and down not siide to side to remove.
6. Boot up
7. install new drivers.
8 work out all of the bugs.
9. you are finsished!!!!

PM me if you need more help!!! :)

I would suggest booting into Safe Mode and inspecting Device Manager. Items that do not show in normal Device Manager will sometimes be present in Safe Mode as history items.

If it is on-board sound, you might not be able to successfully remove them. I had this happen to me and I just clicked in the "Disable in this Hardware Profile" box it the Device Manager Properties for that item. This deactivated the onboard sound and my upgrade sound card worked fine.

I also had to do this in the same machine for video when I upgraded to a 3D accelerator.
