New Sound Blaster Live! drivers on Windows Update

Microsoft Windows Update

For Windows XP (and probably 2000 also, but I'm not sure). These have just been posted in the last 12 hours. I much prefer Microsoft drivers to Creative's shoddy ones. For one thing, the size is realistic, 4.2MB, not 52MB, for another, they just work and don't cause compatibility problems with Windows XP.

Looks like these drivers cleared up the crackling sounds I was having while streaming audio from the internet.

Also, system is smoother, more reponsive while I'm listening to Audio and surfing media rich web pages.

Nice.

I just got an e-mail from Creative (their newsletter) letting me know new drivers are available. I checked their site and they are dated middle of July 2002. No new drivers show up in Windows Update (for Windows 2000) though. I've been using the November 2001 drivers from Creative right now and I'll give the new ones from Creative a try.

What's up with their funky file download queue system?

I tried the new drivers. The interface has a cool blue makeover. It is simplified a slight bit. I notice that the volume is now 20-30% lower at the same setting though.

I didn't have any problems before that I could remember and I haven't encountered any problems yet. I did read something about Microsoft Digital Rights Management for audio in the EULA. I wonder if they did something.
