New Sony RX100 III

It has a wider angle lens (24-70mm equivalent) with f1.8 to f2.8-- Close to the Lumix LX-7 but with a MUCH bigger sensor of course. But the best feature is the popup EVF which was a feature sorely lacking from the RX100 and the only reason I bought an LX-7 instead. Seems like the best compact camera so far. It doesn't have a hot shoe but I find the idea of using a big flash on a tiny camera ridiculous-- just carry your SLR if you're going to use a flash. Also no mic input but that's irrelevant since you're better off using a separate PCM recorder.

Sony has been relentless in upgrading their camera lineup over the past few years. I'm really impressed. They are also being reasonable with pricing. I'll think long and hard between this and a GM1 when I upgrade my compact camera. I will likely lean towards the Sony because of the pop-up EVF, it is substantially smaller compared to a GM1 with lens, and the speed of the Sony lens is fairly close to a m4/3 prime lens.

Hopefully with this coming out, the original will drop in price a bit. Been looking to pick one up as smaller carry around camera.

I have the original RX100, and I found the lack of a viewfinder severely limiting in my creativity with it. The pop-up viewfinder is really making me want this, but I also noticed that the RX100 has grown in thickness with each revision. The original RX100 is already kind of a pain to get into my jeans pockets because of that lens sticking out...

got the rx100 for my inlaws when it came out. it seems like a really really good compact from my limited use. If i was in the market for a compact, this would be it

cant believe they got rid of the hot shoe on this guy. now my decision is going be harder on what to go from my G11. I really like the full 180 degree rotating viewfinder, the III has that. However, I found myself utilizing an external flash from time to time especially indoors, and the II has that.

if you're carrying that much kit around already, might a smaller 4/3 or nex be a good choice?

Anyone had one of these for a while now and have feedback on how they like it? $800 is a lot for a little camera. That's more than I spent on a new DSLR 6 years ago.

Debating this and Canon S120 at present.

If you're looking at the S120, then you're not needing a viewfinder... that means you could consider the first generation RX100.

I just picked one up on Craigslist and it's a beastly pocketable camera.
