I've played pretty much every system for a good amount of time at some point, and I've seen and felt some really, really bad controller designs and I can honestly say that the Playstation controller is NOT bad at all. The Sega Genesis, Super NES and original Xbox controllers, however, are totally different stories.

How dare you question the perfection of the super nes controller!

yeah, especially considering that the playstation controller is essentially a rip off of the super nes controller. don't know how you can find the original playstation controller 'not bad at all,' but the snes controller a 'totally different story.'

Becuase SNES is 2D and PS3 is 3D? Becuase of the crappy location of the thumbstick? If they did what Nintendo did and placed the thumbstick in the primary position and switched places with the quad-pad I'd say it would be a substantial improvement.

In all fairness, a controller is just a controller. All the controllers I've used have varying levels or comfort when I first pick them up, but I have been able to get used to all of them in a short amount of time. I have never thought of a controller as a reason to purchase or pass up a system, because basically they are all the same and easy to get accustomed to.

Well, except in the case of the Wii. That is the only case where a controller is a major factor or whether or not I would buy a console. That is the only case of actual controller innovation in numerous years. :p

what the hell are you talking about?

he said that the playstation controller is not bad at all, but the SNES controller is bad. i'm wondering how he could possibly say something like that, considering that the PS controller is essentially a rip off of the SNES controller. same button layout, two extra shoulder buttons, and handles.

PS/PS2/PS3, DC controllers = the suck. I find that the handles "poke" my hand because of their crappy shape that completely ignores ergodynamics.
XBOX S, XBOX360, GameCube controllers = FTW. Controllers shaped like they belong in my palm kick ass.

I thought they were making those LAME ass ps3 controllers...long handles or some trash

Me too. Glad to see they didn't fix what was FAR from broke.

yes, after 11 years its essentially the same, which is why it sucks compared to other controllers. Noob fanboys deterring innovation...

Well it isn't as if in 11 years the shape of the average human hand has gone under radical changes. Also, it isn't as if they didn't have the necessary technology to make a comfortable controller when the Playstation 1 or 2 came out. The only reason to change it would be to add technological functions, which is not what most of the controller bickering here is about.

The dualshock PS1 controller fit well, so at least I'll know that the PS3 controller would fit my hand well if I ever got a PS3.

PS1 games weren't exactly 3D intensive when the dual shock came out, which is why the thumb sticks are in secondary positions. Things haven't changed since. All systems intended primarily for 3D gaming have had their thumb sticks in primary positions.

The design is rigid and symmetrical, going for a hard industrial look vs. a potentially unattractive ergonomic look. Not only is the design least comfortable, it is least functional.

They tried incorporating ergonomics in their original PS3 controller boomerang sex-toy design, but it was obviously too drastic a change (it was obvious even there that Sony was pushing for an impressive futuristic look, form over functionality). However even that design failed to change the thumb stick positions...

Again, it is just the stupid Sony fanboys who are holding things back (too scared of change). Everyone I know who owns a PS1/2 along with another system (Xbox/GC) will admit to the PS controller as being clearly inferior.

The whole ?if it ain?t broke? attitude is utter BS. There was nothing wrong with 2D gaming, why did we change? There was nothing wrong with 4:3 ?full screen? gaming, why are we changing? Get over it; there are better ways to game, including how you control it.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.

yes, but some are hairy and have sh!t caked on them and smell real bad

ive had practically every system since nes and i think that the playstation series controller is by far the most comfortable. but my friend sitting here beside me doesnt think think the same. everyones got different tastes and comforts.
being that PS3 can play all the old ps games (PS and PS2) and the xbox360 is only a select few, i think is a big advantage.
another advantage is the blu-ray drive. a blu-ray drive is like, what, $999? if all your concerned with is having the "latest and greatest" this makes it worth everything. but this also makes it capable of more vivid presentations all around.
and i dont know about everybody else but, when i play a game system, i dont really want to be flinging my arms around and all that. i just wanna sit on a procrastinating couch and chill. and ive kind of lost respect for nintendo as the gamecube aged. the games are fun, but not really serious at all (with the exception of resident evil 4). i cant really get into them. and i wont put the effort towards getting into them if i have to do all that waving around...but im just a lazy ass i guess

I won't be buying one. Unless I can afford to grab 2 or 3 to resell on fleabay, because I damn sure don't want one for myself. :D

Oh, and for the record, you whiny little girl-hand sony fanboys, the PS2/3 dual shock controllers are CRAP and uncormfortable. I challenge you to tell me that the DS sticks are where your thumbs naturally land when you grab the ps2 controller.

And if the position of the analog stick(s) makes sense, then the position of the buttons must not. ;)

There's a reason the designs of the Xbox and Gamecube controllers are very similar.

well the bluray isnt' the greatest at the moment, the releases have been poor, and the 1000 dollar player is also buggy and poor. as for the average gamer thinking this bluray makes it worth everything aka 600 dollars..thats questionable.

This thing is an ugly beast. I will avoid it at all cost until a 2nd gen come out a few years later.
