New Soltek build not working...

I just built a Soltek EQ3705A and for some reason the agp doesn't seem to be working.

When I use the onboard video it works fine, but when I put in my Geforce 6800 or a spare Geforce 2 I get no monitor signal ?

I have 1 gig of corsair value, a 250 gig WD, and an AMD 3200 + .

The reason I changed was that on my old rig (m7ncd and 340 watt PS) I kept getting random reboots and eventually it just wouldn't post into windows.

Thoughts ?

Have you disabled the on-board gfx in the BIOS? Prolly s/n have to, but it's worth a try.

You can't..the options are onboard/agp or pci.

I set it to pci on a whim and it worked on the agp card.

Then I set it back to onboard/agp and it worked.

Weird.

Yeah, that is weird. But I've seen other weird stuff when trying an AGP card in an on-board gfx mobo. Consequently, I'll never get another one (haven't for about 5 yrs). Sounds like it's working though, if so, good deal.

My only other problem is heat.

When I launch a prime 95 torture test the temp keeps rising, it hit 60 before I killed it....is there anything I Can do to lower the temp besides getting a new hs / fan ?

I don't even want to know what would happen if I run doom3 or something, with both cpu and videocard at full tilt.

Prolly the first/cheapest thing I'd do is clean out the HS on the CPU. It's amazing how much "fuzz" builds up in the fans. Does it pretty quick too, especially if you've got pets or dust in your place.

Is the thermal paste job on the HS+cpu good? Too much and it can hamper the thermal conductivity, meaning poor cooling. I assume the HS is making good contact with the cpu, since you indicate it only gets real hot when under load.

IIRC, that's a NF2 mobo, what HS+F are you using? The stock/retail one?

Hows the case ventilation? Adding case fans can be cheaper than buying a HS+F forthe cpu. Check your cables, make sure they're not blocking air flow to the cpu etc.

Otherwise, check around and see what HS fit. I've got a Thermalright SLK 947U. A big hunk of copper, but I needed an adapter/bracket to make it fit. Kind of a pain.

My other HS is a Vantec Aeroflow, not as good as the other, but less expensive. Still way better than the stock one though.

Lastly, when you figure out what HS will fit, check the FS/FT section. Lot of peeps are switching from skt A to the 64 bit, so should be some good HS's for sale as a good price.
